Hinirugyaw Festival

A nine day event to honor Senior Santo Niño. There is also a Sto. Niño contest for young boys not older than seven years old.

Dinagyang Festival

Sadsad sa Kalye

“Sadsad” is a native word which means dance and “Kalye” means streets. It is a street-dancing affair which expresses or presents the beliefs, views, visions and aspirations of the Janiuaynons base on traditions, historical experiences, and culture.

Fireworks Display and Contest

Fiesta of Arevalo highlight. Arevalo is known when it comes to creating fireworks, and during December, you would see vendors on the streets selling all kinds of fireworks, mostly created by the local folks.

Binanog Festival

When: January 10 to 16

Where: Lambunao, Iloilo, Philippines

Binanog means a pool of dance by the people in hinterland of Lambunao. Dances includes “Binanugan” which depicts the movement of birds, “Inagong Sayaw-Sayaw” which is a celebration dance, and the “Dinagmay” known as the courtship dance. Dances are accompanied with live drum beatings. This event is held in honor of the infant Jesus.

Pasungay Festival

Where: San Joaquin, Iloilo, Philippines

This event started when the resting farmers witness the fight between two raging bulls set lose by their herdsmen. It caught the fancy of barangay folks and has then become a popular entertainment in most barangay fiestas.

Year 2008, when my family was in San Joaquin fiesta, I took videos of the event.
