Iloilo Ang Banwa Ko

Iloilo ang banwa ko ginahingadlan
Ka tam-is nga pulong nga akon gin mat-an
Dili ko ikaw bulagan
Banwa kong nalulutan
Ikaw ang gin kuha-an sang kalipayan

Ilonggo, ako nga tunay
Nga naga puyo sa higad sang bay-bay
Manami mag kiay-kiay
Sa tagipusu-on, bug-os ang kalipay

TAGALOG TRANSLATION:

Iloilo ang bayan kong sinasabi
Matamis na wika na aking nagisnan
Hindi ko ikaw iiwanan
Lalawigan, minamahal
Ikaw ang kadluan
Ng aking kaligayahan

Ilonggo, ako nga tunay
Na nakatira sa tabi ng dagat
Pagkilos, mayuming tunay
Yaring aking dibdib
Puno ng luwalhati

Dutang Hamili

This is the National Anthem translated in Hiligaynon or Ilonggo by SUMAKWELAN, a group of writers, singers and reporters using vernacular of western visayas. Translation was done in Dainty Restaurant in Iloilo, last December 16, 1989 lead by former Iloilo governor Conrado J. Norada.

Dutang hamili
Mutya nga sidlanganon
Gugmang ga-dabdab
Kami ga palangga

Duta sang gugma
Duyan sang baganihan
Sa manunulong
Dili magpalupig

Sa tagumon mong langit
Harupoy dagat kag kabukiran
Ga sili naga silak
Ang binalaybay sang kahilwayan

Sa imo hayahay
Naga siga ang kadalag-an
Bituon mo kag adlaw
Tub-tub san-o di gid ma kulapan

Dutang ma-anyag
Sang kapawa kag gugma
Matam-is mag puyo sa sabak mo
Kahimaya-an
Sang imo ka-anakan
Manginmatay pag dampig sa imo

PAMBANSANG AWIT: Lupang Hinirang

Bayang magiliw
Perlas ng Silanganan
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo’y buhay

Lupang hinirang
Duyan ka ng magiting
Sa manlulupig
Di ka pasisiil

Sa dagat at bundok
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw
May dilag ang tula
At awit sa paglayang minamahal

Ang kislap ng watawat mo’y
Tagumpay na nangniningning
Ang bituin at araw niya’y
Kailan pa ma’y di magdidilim

Lupa ng araw
Ng luwalhati’t pagsinta
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo
Aming ligaya
Na pag may mang-aapi
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
from Wikipedia (un-official)

Beloved country,
Pearl of the Orient,
The burning [fervour] of the heart,
In thy chest is ever alive.

Chosen Land,
Thou art the cradle of the brave.
To the conquerors,
Thou shall never surrender.

In the seas and mountains,
In the air and in the sky of blue,
There is splendour in the poem
And [in the] song for freedom beloved.

The sparkle of thy flag
Is victory that shines.
Its stars and sun
Forever shall never dim.

Land of the sun, of glory and our love,
Life is heaven in thy embrace;
It is our joy, when there are oppressors,
To die because of thee.

Lyrics from video:

Land of the morning
Child of son returning
With fervor burning
Thee do our souls adore

Land dear and holy
Cradle of noble heroes
Ne’er shall invaders
Trample thy scared shore

Even within the skies
And through thy clouds
And o’er thy hills and sea
Do we behold the radiance
Feel the throb of glorious liberty

Thy banner, dear to all our hearts
Its sun and stars alight
O never shall its shining field
Be dimmed by tyrant’s might

Beautiful land of love
O land of light
In thine embrace ’til rapture to lie
But it is glory ever
When thou art wronged
For us, thy sons, to suffer and die

Lyrics from video:

Tierra adorada
Hija del sol de Oriente
Su fuego ardiente
En ti latiendo esta

Patria de amores
Del heroismo cuna
Los invasores
No te hallaran jamas

En tu azul cielo, en tus auras
En tus montes y entu mar
Esplende y late y poema
Du tu amada libertad

Tu pabellon, que en las lides
La victoria ilumino, No vera
Nunca apagados
Sus estrella y su sol

Tierra de dichas, de sol y amores
En tu regazo dolce es vivir
En una gloria para tus hijos
Cuando te ofenden, por ti morir

The Legend of Iloilo

Iloilo is a place that consist a river (Batiano River) where the opening is facing Guimaras straight. This continues to the City proper and enters south district of La Paz, to west or on its right is going district of Mandurriao, and Molo on the left. The shape of the river is like a nose (irong in dialect). This is the reason why it is called Irong-Irong by the locals.

When the Spaniards came they had a hard time pronouncing the name of the place. Now it is known as Iloilo.

Story about the Santo Niño of San Joaquin

There was once a fisherman who went to San Joaquin church and asked the priest a payment for a fish that a little boy took. The fisherman claimed that the little boy told him to ask payment from the priest. The priest then paid without question asked, even if he knew that he did not ask anyone to buy a fish for him. The next day during his mass, the priest noticed that the Santo Niño was holding a fish on his hand.
